Police in Las Vegas forge close ties to city’s Muslim community

And at a time when many police departments are trying to build better ties to the country’s estimated 6 million Muslims worshiping at 2,000 mosques across the country, Las Vegas’ program could prove a model for others.

Metro decided years ago to create an outreach strategy to the Muslim community in Las Vegas. The police department’s goal is to help better operate within a tightknit and often mistrustful community of 30,000 Muslims, and to help Muslim leaders police their own community as well.
