The Bishop Gorman High basketball program has produced another state Gatorade Player of the Year.

Duke-bound senior Chase Jeter was picked today, becoming the fourth Gael in five years to claim the Gatorade award.

“Honored to have won Nevada Gatorade player of the year!! Hard work truly pays off!!,” Jeter posted on Twitter.

He joins Noah Robotham (2014), Shabazz Muhammad (2012 and 2011) and Johnathan Loyd (2010) as recent recipients. Other Gorman players to receive the award include: Marcus Lawrence (2006) and CJ Watson (2002 and 2001).

Muhammad (Minnesota), Watson (Indiana) and 2008 winner Luke Babbitt (Portland) of Galena High in Reno each reached the NBA. Jeter, a top 10 recruit and a McDonald’s All-American, could follow suit.

He averaged 17 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks per game this season, helping Gorman win its fourth consecutive large-school classification state championship. Jeter is also one of the top students in his graduating class at Gorman, giving him the total package for Gatorade officials.

Here’s the criteria: “The initial pool of nominations will be selected solely on the basis of athletics. In later stages of judging, in evaluating the relative merits of top contenders, winners are reidentified and selected based upon a 60 percent weighting of overall athletic resume (including a primary assessment of the current season) along with a 40 percent weighting of academic achievement and character.”
