Vegas Play of the Day: Oakland A’s at Houston Astros

Wed, Apr 15, 2015 (10:53 a.m.)

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Oakland A’s at Houston Astros, Total Under 8 at EVEN: $500 to win $500 I love betting totals under in baseball on the getaway day. Both Oakland and Houston will travel after today’s game, meaning both teams will be motivated to play a quick game. Runs will be few.

Houston has struggled to score all season, managing just one run in the first two games of the series against Oakland. In six of Houston’s eight games this season, they’ve failed to score more than two runs. The Astros will have a hard time finding their offense against Oakland starter Drew Pomeranz, who in his last outing pitched seven scoreless innings with six strikeouts.

Houston starter Collin McHugh was also solid in his lone appearance of the brief season, surrendering one run in six innings with four strikeouts. There will be several strikeouts for both teams today in what should be a sure-thing total under.

Standings: Keefer (76-71-2, $11,732), Bern (74-66-1, $10,662), Brewer (64-80-3, $1,345)
