Vegas Play of the Day: Rockies at Diamondbacks

Thu, Jul 2, 2015 (2:36 p.m.)

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Arizona Diamondbacks minus-1.5, plus-150 vs. Colorado Rockies: $400 to win $600:: Colorado starter Chris Rusin, who enters with a 4.69 earned run average, won’t be long for tonight’s game against the Diamondbacks. Rusin has lost three of his past four starts, surrendering 11 hits and six runs on June 11 against Miami and nine runs in five innings June 16 against Houston.

Paul Goldschmidt, the Arizona slugger with a .350 batting average, is arguably the hottest hitter in the game. He’s riding an 11-game hitting streak and has 20 home runs and 65 RBIs this season. He will continue to thrive against Rusin, giving Arizona a significant advantage.

Sure, it’s asking a lot of an Arizona team with a record under .500 to win by two or more runs, but with a subpar pitcher such as Colorado’s, it’s a risk worth taking.

Current Standings (as of July 1): Bern (0-0, $10,000), Brewer (0-0, $10,000) Keefer (0-1, $9,740)

Lifetime Records: 2014-15 champion Bern (85-74-1), Keefer (82-88-2), Brewer (73-89-2)
