We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Colorado Rockies plus-150 at Chicago Cubs: $300 to win $450:: It’s the “dog days of the summer” in Major League Baseball. Time to wager on a betting underdog: The high-scoring Colorado Rockies. Colorado ranks fifth in baseball in runs scored, including plating 17 runs Sunday.

Chicago has lost nine of its past 14 games, getting swept over the weekend by the Phillies, who entered the three-game series with the worst record in baseball. Chicago’s best hitters, rookie Kris Bryant of Las Vegas and Anthony Rizzo, are in the middle of an awful slump. Bryant is 6 for 50 in his past 13 games, and Rizzo is 3 for 27 over his last seven.

Chicago (51-46) is starting to play like the team it was supposed to be. The Cubs, with a nucleus of young players, wasn’t expected to challenge for the playoffs until next season. Despite a hot start, it appears those predictions were accurate. The Cubs are fading.
