Vegas Play of the Day: Saint Louis Cardinals at Miami Marlins

Thu, Jun 25, 2015 (12:52 p.m.)

Like the first track on Tom Petty’s “Full Moon Fever,” I’m free-fallin’.

I’ve gone 2-9 over the last five weeks in the South Point-lined Play of the Day. A couple more losses and my starting $10,000 bankroll will hit a new low. The time is now for a rebound.

Miami Marlins plus-106 vs. Saint Louis Cardinals: $400 to win $424

Miami starter Dan Haren’s last two starts were rough, but the 34-year-old veteran is enjoying a renaissance overall this season. He’s been especially difficult to hit at home, where he’s posted a sub-1 WHIP.

Saint Louis starter Lance Lynn is off to a nice start to the season, too, but he’s coming off of the disabled list tonight. Lynn has been a workhorse over the last couple seasons, so it’s no surprise his arm is banged up.

No matter how confident the Cardinals are that he’s back to full-strength, there can be no certainty of how Lynn will come back from injury.

The pitching edge falls to the Marlins tonight. Offensively, it’s a wash.

The Cardinals have scored a few more runs on the year, but Miami slugger Giancarlo Stanton is red-hot and leading the league with 27 home runs and 67 RBI. Leadoff man Dee Gordon is in the running for the hitting title with a .352 average.

There’s value in this home underdog.

Standings: Bern (84-73-1, $11,405), Keefer (82-85-2, $8,442), Brewer (72-89-3, -$415)
