We’re entering the third season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won the 2015-2016 season, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015. Bern stepped away in the middle of the 2016-2017 season with a 16-12 record and $13,317 bankroll, with Mike Grimala taking his place.

Miami Marlins minus-130 vs. Atlanta Braves: $910 to win $700 : It’s not common in an 162-game baseball season to wager on a team that you are almost certain will bring its best effort. That’s one of the mysteries in handicapping a long season — where everything from travel to slumps or a hot pitcher is seemingly impossible to keep track off.

The Miami Marlins are easy to figure out tonight. They want to win this game. They will bring a premium effort. I’m so confident in the Marlins in their home opener, that I am making my largest wager of the contest. Go Fish, go!

Miami is the last team to host its home opener, and like the league’s other franchises during their initial home games, it should be a standing-room-only crowd. And the Marlins will surely give another tribute to fallen pitcher Jose Fernandez, a local kid who was their best player before dying in September in a boating accident.

Miami starter Dan Straily only needs to hold up his end of the bargain. Straily was roughed up for five earned runs in his season debut last week against the Nationals and didn’t make it out of the fourth inning. His struggles are why Miami backers are getting great price at minus-130.

Current Standings: Keefer (41-35-3, $8,307), Grimala (6-11, $7,985), Brewer (27-28-1, $6,685), Granger (13-18-1, $6,377)
