We’re entering the fourth season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won back-to-back titles in the 2015-2016 and 2016-17 seasons, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015.

New York Mets minus-130 vs. Colorado Rockies, $520 to win $400 : The New York Mets dug themselves out of a significant hole in the standings last season during the second half of the schedule to reach the playoffs. While a Mets rally in the final months of 2017 seems unlikely, let’s not put a standings-climb past them.

Tonight, in the first game of the second half of the season, don’t be surprised if the Mets players perform with the hope that they can salvage the season. It doesn’t hurt that pitching ace Jacob deGrom is tonight’s starter.

The Mets have won in each of deGrom’s past five starts, and he’s pitched into the seventh inning in each outing. He’s registered 130 strikeouts on the season in just 110 innings pitched — one of the key stats I use in handicapping baseball. The less the ball is in play, the better, right?

Current Standings: Granger (3-1, $11,062), Keefer (2-1, $10,429), Brewer (1-1, $10,100), Grimala (0-1, $9,500)
