We’ve entered the fourth season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won back-to-back titles in the 2015-2016 and 2016-17 seasons, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015.

San Francisco Giants plus-138 vs Los Angeles Dodgers: $400 to win $552

The battle of Southern California versus Northern California doesn’t feel like it has the intensity it normally does. That’s expected, considering the Giants are 33.5 games behind the Dodgers in the division -- the most they’ve ever been.

The Dodgers seem to be running away with the best record in all of baseball, while the Giants have the third worst record.

Still, I believe in Madison Bumgarner, and if I can get him as a plus-138 underdog I will take it.

Bumgarner is trying to get into the swing of things since returning from his dirt bike injury, but has been solid this year with a 3.38 earned runs average and 42 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched. The problem is the Giants have given him no support, leaving him with a 1-4 record on the season.

Bumgarner has been especially good against the Dodgers in his career, with a 14-9 record and 2.70 ERA in 27 games. I don’t like the Giants, but I’ll trust Bumgarner to surprise the Dodgers tonight.

Current Standings: Granger (4-2, $12,557), Keefer (4-1, $11,095), Grimala (1-1, $10,010), Brewer (3-3, $9,780)
