Vegas Play of the Day: Orlando at Memphis

Wed, Nov 1, 2017 (10:53 a.m.)

We’re entering the fourth season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won back-to-back titles in the 2015-2016 and 2016-17 seasons, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015.

Orlando at Memphis, Total Over 202, $660 to win $600: The Orlando Magic have scored at least 113 in each of their seven games this season. In three of the games, the Magic have surrendered more than 120 points. They play at a fast pace and have many flaws defensively — a perfect formula in betting the points total over.

By no means is Memphis a good offense team. It ranks 24th in the league in points per game and 27th in assists. The lack of good guard play has led to frequent selfish play.

When you consider Memphis is a 3-point betting favorite, it’s not too far-fetched to assume the Grizzlies will attempt to turn the game into a half-court affair. That’s why the points total is a favorable 202. I’m not buying into that theory; there’s no slowing down Orlando.

Current Standings: Granger (8-8, $11,575), Keefer (12-11-1, $9,971), Brewer (12-11, $9,530), Grimala (5-6, $8,715).
