A self-proclaimed Juggalo street gang member was arrested after allegedly attacking a cyclist with a pair of dulled meat cleavers.
Stephen Giles, 21, was arrested Friday after allegedly attacking a cyclist around 11:30 a.m. Friday near Judson Avenue and Castleberry Lane in northeast Las Vegas.
According to an arrest report, Giles approached and attacked 31-year-old Anthony Castellanos, slicing him twice in the back with a meat cleaver and calling him a snitch.
Metro Police officers located Giles in a front yard a few blocks away from the attack after Castellanos successfully identified him in a photo lineup. Giles told officers that he had drugs in his left shoe, and officers also discovered two meat cleavers in his backpack while arresting him.
Officers found 0.4 grams of methamphetamine inside Giles's left sock.
Giles told officers that he had only punched Castellanos in the face a few times, and attacked him because Castellanos was annoying a female friend of his.
He also told officers that he carried the meat cleavers because it has special meaning to members of the Juggalo street gang, who are devoted fans of the horror-rap group Insane Clown Posse that participate in criminal activities. Giles said the meat cleavers, which were very dull, belonged to his brother.
Another man claiming to be a Juggalo, 31-year-old Timothy Dudley, was arrested earlier in July after stabbing a man near Fremont Street.
Officers arrested Giles on charges of attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
