Two pedestrians were struck and injured, one critically, while crossing Las Vegas valley streets, according to Metro Police.
A man suspected of driving under the influence hit a 53-year-old pedestrian who was walking outside a marked crosswalk Thursday night in the northeast valley, police said.
The accident happened at 10:09 p.m. on Lamb Boulevard, south of Owens Avenue. A preliminary investigation indicates the male pedestrian was walking west across Lamb Boulevard when a 1995 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck hit him, police said.
The driver of the pickup truck continued heading north without stopping, police said. A witness followed the pickup for several miles until police stopped it.
The driver, identified as 37-year-old Jose Romero Avila, failed field sobriety tests and was arrested on counts of driving under the influence and felony hit and run, police said.
The pedestrian was transported to University Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition, police said.
Avila is being held at the Clark County Detention Center with bail set at $22,000, according to jail records.
In the other incident, a 59-year-old man suffered serious injuries after being struck by a sport utility vehicle early this morning, Metro Police reported.
The accident happened at 12:27 a.m. on Boulder Highway, just south of Mayorga Street, police said.
It appears the pedestrian was crossing Boulder Highway from east to west when a 1998 Lincoln Navigator struck him, police said.
The pedestrian, who was not in a marked crosswalk, was transported to University Medical Center with serious injuries, police said. The 33-year-old driver of the SUV remained on scene.
Both accidents remain under investigation by Metro’s traffic bureau.
