Above-average temperatures expected in Las Vegas this weekend

Fri, Aug 28, 2015 (12:18 p.m.)

Temperatures are heating up in the Las Vegas Valley, which will be a tad bit warmer than usual this weekend, the National Weather Service reported.

Normal high temperatures at this time of year are 100 degrees, but the valley will be about 5 to 6 degrees hotter this weekend, meteorologist John Salem said.

Friday's low was 83 degrees, Salem said — a record for the warmest low temperature.

Dusty southwest winds are expected to pick up throughout the weekend, he said, and there will be only a 10 percent chance of thunderstorms.

The slightly warmer weather won't last long. High temperatures are expected to drop to 101 degrees by Sunday and remain in the upper 90s throughout next week.
