Coroner’s office ID’s boy, 4, who died after being left in hot car

A 4-year-old boy who died Thursday evening after being left in a hot car in the east valley has been identified as Seth Franz of Las Vegas by the Clark County Coroner's office.

About 6:30 p.m., police responded to the 4600 block of Welter Avenue, near Sahara Avenue and Nellis Boulevard, Metro Police said.

The boy had been locked in the car for about an hour and a half while his grandfather ran errands, police said.

He was discovered by family and taken to Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The incident appears to have been an accident, police said.

Temperatures in the area had reached about 100 degrees around 6:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Metro's abuse and neglect detectives are investigating the incident, which is standard operating procedure.
