Republican state Assembly member Michele Fiore is drawing heavy criticism for her remarks on a radio show that she would like to shoot Syrian refugees. A petition saying that she should resign received 1,854 supporters as of today. Gawker called her “a lunatic.”
And although Fiore said her comments were misinterpreted, she lost another constituency Wednesday night — talk show hosts. On The Nightly Show on Comedy Central, host Larry Wilmore blasted Fiore in part of a segment on Islamophobia in the United States.
“I wouldn’t expect too much from an elected official in a state that’s ranked 50th in education,” Wilmore said.

Wilmore also noted Fiore’s gun-focused calendar and Christmas card, saying, “I wish I was making this up, but I’m not. This (isn’t) even funny.”
