Letter to the Editor:

Hearsay shouldn’t convict QB Brady

Wed, May 20, 2015 (2 a.m.)

I thought we had hit a new low with our political system in this country and couldn’t go any lower, but I was wrong. We have succeeded in hitting a new low in sports and in our legal system.

I thought the news media’s job was to find and support the truth rather than support sensationalism. The reporting by the news media throughout this country has convicted Tom Brady on probable cause. Yes, every report is saying he probably knew the balls were deflated. Not one report has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that he did know. There is all kinds of evidence that states the opposite. The gauges that were used to test the air pressure gave different readings. The referees who handle the balls after each play could not tell the difference. The weather has a factor on air pressure. Etc.

You do not have to be a Patriots fan to support justice. Are we now going to convict people on probable cause? If so, we need to build a lot more prisons. I support justice and integrity. If the proof is there I will support the punishment, but not until then. I think the professional players who are out there every day, and know how tough this game is, should get behind Tom Brady and support him.
