A vacant North Las Vegas house was destroyed in a fire this afternoon, according to the North Las Vegas Fire Department.

Crews were called about 3:20 p.m. to the area near Simmons Street and Logan Avenue, where a single-story house was fully engulfed in flames, North Las Vegas Fire Department Capt. Cedric Williams said.

It took about 20 minutes to get the fire under control, and winds hampered the firefighting effort, he said.

Winds have kicked up in the valley today ahead of a low-pressure system moving into the area, National Weather Service meteorologist John Adair said.

Gusts at the North Las Vegas Airport reached above 30 mph today, he said.

No injuries were reported to any firefighters who battled the house fire, and the blaze did not spread beyond the house, Williams said.

The cause of the fire and a damage estimate have not been determined, but Williams described the house as a "complete loss."
