Motorcyclist dies in hit-and-run with Hummer

A motorcyclist is dead after a hit-and-run Saturday night in the eastern part of the valley, according to Metro Police.

Around 10:10 p.m., a Hummer H2 was turning left from westbound Charleston Boulevard onto southbound Sacramento Drive when an eastbound Suzuki GSXR motorcycle approaching the intersection hit the right front of the Hummer, police said.

The operator and passenger of the motorcycle were ejected. The operator was pronounced dead at the scene, and the passenger was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries, police said.

According to police, the driver of the Hummer fled on foot without stopping to help the victims or exchange information; the Hummer's passenger remained at the scene.

The incident, which remains under investigation, marks the 81st traffic-related fatality this year in Metro's jurisdiction.
