letters to the editor:

Taxicab lobby is to blame for our transit woes

Thu, Apr 21, 2016 (2 a.m.)

I now hear that the sate Board of Transportation is concerned because visitors to Las Vegas lack a good way to get from the airport to sites on or near the Strip. Really, does anyone remember the great idea of a monorail? That was the answer many years ago. It could have been designed with the future in mind. It should have been a loop that would have easily been added on to as the city grew and funds became available.

Connecting it to the airport was a no-brainer then, but it didn’t happen. Of course, it is well-known that the taxicab lobby won that battle. It wanted exclusive rights to transport the visitors. Now we suddenly have a problem. My answer to that is no, you the Transportation Authority and the planners have a problem. Your sucking up to the lobby and your lack of foresight have caused the problem. Now you can figure out how to solve this with your buddies at the taxicab consortium.
