Metro Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a teenager by an employee at a smoke shop during what police described as an attempted robbery Friday evening.

Officers were called about 5:15 p.m. to the Desert Breeze Plaza in the 8600 block of West Flamingo Road, near Durango Road, police said.

Preliminary information indicated that the teen and two other youths had covered their faces with masks before entering the business, Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said.

"(They) entered the business with intent to commit a robbery," police said in a news release Saturday.

The wounded teen, who was shot multiple times, died at a hospital shortly after arrival, police said.

The other teens fled and were arrested at a nearby fast-food restaurant without further incident, according to police. It wasn't immediately clear if they had been armed or what charges they were book on.

Police detained the store employee, who requested an attorney before giving a statement to investigators.

This was Metro's 158th homicide investigation of 2016.
