The Bishop Gorman High football program has sent players to some of the best college teams in its rise as a national brand.
Players who helped Gorman build its dynasty of seven straight state championships are on the rosters or verbally committed at major programs from Notre Dame to USC, while others have already graduated.
Add perennial national power Ohio State to the list.
Rising senior defensive lineman Haskell Garrett verbally committed to the 2014-15 national champion Buckeyes this morning, picking them over a who’s who of programs such as Penn State, Notre Dame and Texas A&M, which also made scholarship offers.
The 6-foot-3, 290-pound Garrett is a four-star recruit by Scout.com and has been one of Gorman’s best defenders in its back-to-back mythical national championship seasons. Despite missing a few games with injury and not playing in the second half of blowout wins, he finished 2015 with 53 tackles and six sacks. He also had three rushing touchdowns.
Scout considers Garrett the nation's No. 22 overall prospect and No. 2 defensive tackle for 2017.
"Garrett has a non-stop motor, plays with superior technique, and is a playmaker," said Greg Biggins of Scout. "He can take on a double team, penetrate and still make a tackle. His upside is tremendous and he has the talent to play for any school in the country.“
He joins class of 2017 teammates Bubba Bolden (USC) and Tate Martell (Texas A&M) who are verbally committed.
National signing day isn’t until February 2017, meaning players can still be recruited by other schools.
