Letter to the editor:

Trump, not Cruz, is anti-Semitic

Tue, Feb 9, 2016 (2 a.m.)

Regarding the Las Vegas Sun’s Jan. 24 Where I Stand column “Some thoughts on Cruz, the PUC and the EU”:

Well done; I agree with everything in the piece with one exception: To me, the term “New York values” as used by Ted Cruz refers to a liberal, center to far-left view on social and political issues and is associated with the Democratic Party and not necessarily anti-Semitic. If you are looking for anti-Semitic rhetoric coming out of Republican candidates, look at Donald Trump’s address to the Jewish Republican Committee earlier this year, which was full of a lot of “you people” phrasing and the express message that he wasn’t taking money from “you people” because “you people” want to control a president whose campaign you donate to. The column was also so right about Sarah Palin. I would have voted Republican for the first time in my life and voted for Sen. John McCain but felt it was irresponsible as a citizen, regardless of party, to put Palin one heartbeat away from the presidency.

Finally, the media are missing editorial commentary on two inescapable conclusions on the two Republican front-runners: Neither is a consensus-builder, and consequently, if ever put into office, neither will be able to get anything done.

As to Trump, why is no commentator pointing out that maybe the skill set needed to be a billionaire real estate mogul and to build large resorts for the rich and famous in foreign and domestic markets may not overlap that much with the skill set needed to be a successful leader of the free world?

Thank you again for the time you took to contact me personally earlier this year regarding your uneasy concerns about the Iran deal. As you predicted, the U.S. prisoners were released, with a wink. Unfortunately, Robert Levinson is still missing.
