Metro Police say they are investigating a homicide in the central valley after a woman was found dead early today on a sidewalk with gunshot wounds to the head.
Gunshots were reported about 12:45 a.m. on Quartz Lane, near Jones Boulevard and Alta Drive, Lt. Dan McGrath said.
Officers found a woman in her early 20s lying on a sidewalk in front of a wall separating two houses, McGrath said. Before the shooting, witnesses reporting seeing a gray, four-door car make a U-turn and leave the area, he said.
Detectives were trying to determine if the driver was a suspect or a witness, McGrath said. Investigators said they believe the victim knew her attacker.
Investigators planned to examine surveillance images from houses, a school and a fire station in the area, McGrath said.
Further details were not immediately available.
