No connection between morning fires, officials say

Investigators don’t believe there’s a connection between two central valley fires about the same time this morning and within two blocks of each other, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials.

A fire was reported about 10:30 a.m. in the attic of an abandoned house in the 2400 block of East Ogden Avenue, near Eastern and Stewart avenues, officials said. Firefighters put out the blaze within about 10 minutes.

The cause of fire, which caused about $25,000 in damage, was not determined, but investigators found evidence of squatters living there, officials said.

About two blocks away, in the 2300 block of Sunrise Avenue, a wall of a vacant, boarded-up apartment building caught fire, officials said. The flames caused minimal damage and didn’t make their way inside the building, officials aid.

Investigators found evidence squatters might also have been using that building, officials said.

City and county firefighters responded to the blazes, officials said.
