June unemployment rate in Las Vegas rises to 5.1 percent

CARSON CITY — Unemployment in the Las Vegas area rose to 5.1 percent in June, up from 4.9 percent the previous month, according to the state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Since June 2016, there have been 48,700 new jobs created statewide, and Las Vegas has gained 31,700 over a three-year span.

Unemployment in Washoe County increased from 3.9 percent in May to 4 percent in June. The unemployment rate in Carson City declined from 4.7 percent in May to 4.6 percent in June.

The highest rate in the state was in Lyon County at 6 percent, and the lowest was 2.8 percent in Eureka and Esmeralda counties.
