Proposed regulations would ban home delivery of recreational marijuana

CARSON CITY — Marijuana stores and distributors would be prohibited from making home deliveries, under proposed regulations being considered by the Nevada Department of Taxation. Dispensaries would also be barred from selling liquor and tobacco products.

The department held a second day of workshops today on regulations that will govern the marijuana industry starting Jan. 1.

Deonne Contine, director of the department, said medical marijuana patients would still be able to get home deliveries. But those who want recreational marijuana would have to go to the stores.

This is a change from temporary regulations that went into effect July 1, when recreational sales became legal. Home deliveries are now permitted.

There are two more days of public hearings on the proposed regulations.

Contine said she hopes to finalize the regulations by mid-August and submit them to the Legislative Counsel Bureau to confirm they comply with laws adopted by the state Legislature.
