Letters to the Editor:

Step it up, NV Energy

Thu, Mar 23, 2017 (2 a.m.)

I support Assembly Bill 223 (to establish new and extended energy-efficiency measures), and would like to see the state of Nevada embrace home solar power for residents and energy efficient programs in both new construction and existing homes.

I moved to Las Vegas last year and was disappointed to see the state had voted to reduce net-metering incentives for residential customers. My home in New York was solar powered after the local power company sponsored a program to power homes with solar cells. The power company provided a list of installers and saw me through to the final inspection. Not only did they embrace alternative energy, they drove the program. That installation 14 years ago reduced my bill to less than $15 month. Why is NV Energy holding onto a 20th century business model instead of being a national leader in the generation of renewable energy?
