A 93-year-old doctor and an associate were convicted Thursday of conspiring to distribute prescription medications, according to the Internal Revenue Service.

Henri Wetselaar, 93, and David Litwin, 58, were found guilty for conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, officials said. Additionally, Wetselaar was convicted of money laundering, officials said.

Both face a mandatory 20-year prison sentence and a $1 million fine, officials said.

Wetselaar, who was a pain management doctor, and Litwin, his medical assistant, conspired with drug dealers and prescribed “large amounts” of prescription pain, muscle relaxant and anxiety medication in and around Las Vegas, officials said, citing court documents.

The drugs had “no legitimate medical purpose” for the patients, officials said.

The conviction came after a 10-week trial, officials said. Wetselaar and Litwin are scheduled to be sentenced June 21.
