Letters to the Editor:

Las Vegas needs light rail

Fri, May 19, 2017 (2 a.m.)

The May 9 Sun article regarding light rail in Las Vegas was informative and interesting. The article also reveals a perennial problem in the development of mass transportation in our city — it doesn’t go far enough.

The proposed light-rail system goes from downtown to the airport, but fails to reach the new stadium, which will be drawing thousands of people from downtown. The system goes to UNLV, but does not go to the stadium where UNLV will one day play its football games.

The proposed light-rail system resembles the Las Vegas Monorail, which runs down the Strip but fails to reach downtown or the airport. Las Vegas needs more, which is why it’s encouraging to see a bill that would lay the groundwork for a multibillion-dollar light-rail plan is moving through the Nevada Legislature.
