LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

President lacks necessary focus

Mon, Aug 3, 2020 (2 a.m.)

How is it possible that the president of the greatest nation on earth focuses on a drug, hydroxychloroquine, that has been clinically shown to have no impact on COVID-19? Yet he continues to retweet false information about this drug, misleading the public about practices to minimize the spread of the coronavirus.

Does President Donald Trump have a responsibility to inform the public with the truth about this horrible disease? Should he be held accountable for the deaths of Americans because of his ineptitude? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and its eminent scientists, are the bedrock for science-based information about diseases in the United States, but the president spews nonsense as if it were vetted fact. He is more concerned about who is more popular between him and Dr. Anthony Fauci and has no regard for the more than 155,000 citizens who have died from this disease.

Walking out of a press conference because of a hard question clearly shows that Trump is not capable of leading this country out of the pandemic. If you want a sad chuckle, view Anderson Cooper’s comments on the press conference.

It is time for a president who embraces the hard choices and acts on behalf of the country instead of personal gain.
