Clark County passes emergency housing discrimination ordinance

Tue, Aug 4, 2020 (12:48 p.m.)

Landlords can’t reject a housing applicant based on their source of income or evictions related to the coronavirus pandemic, under an ordinance the Clark County Commission passed today.

Commissioner Justin Jones proposed the ordinance, which carries potential misdemeanor penalties for violators.

Landlords are prohibited from rejecting housing applications based on government assistance, and lenders cannot deny a home loan if a person does not have full-time employment.

The ordinance does not apply to landlords who own and rent one ore two units and occupy one of the units.
