UNLV’s schedule for the 2020 football season continues to morph, as the school announced that it will not be traveling to play at Iowa State this season.

The game had been scheduled for Sept. 19 in Ames, Iowa, as the first installment in a home-and-home series, but the Mountain West announced on Wednesday that its teams will not begin play until the week of Sept. 26.

UNLV will still host Iowa State in 2021, as planned, but per the new agreement the return game in Ames won’t take place until 2030.

The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted some conferences to eliminate all non-league games this season; the Mountain West is taking a different approach, pushing back the overall start date while allowing teams to schedule up to two non-conference games.

Two of UNLV’s original non-league opponents for 2020, Cal and Arizona State, were eliminated when the Pac-12 adopted a conference-only slate. With Iowa State now off the table, the only remaining opponent is Louisiana Tech. UNLV was set to host the Patriots on Sept. 5 at Allegiant Stadium, but the fate of that contest remains uncertain.
