Metro: Officer hurt in crash while trying to detain shooting suspect

An officer suffered minor injuries in a crash today while attempting to detain a suspect in a shooting incident, according to Metro Police.

Dispatchers received a call about 7:10 a.m. of a shooting near Eastern and Stewart avenues, police said.

Nobody was hit by gunfire, and the suspect left the scene, police said. Officers subsequently located the suspect, who sped away in a car, police said.

Metro later reported that a police vehicle was involved in a crash near El Camino Avenue and Arville Street while attempting to detain the suspect.

The patrol vehicle hit a wall near the intersection, police said. An officer was taken to University Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.

Police did not indicate whether the suspect was taken into custody.
