In recent days, President Donald Trump has attempted to debunk the need for protective face masks, social distancing and COVID-19 testing. Meanwhile, this past Wednesday, the United States recorded the highest number of cases since the pandemic began.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that from Feb. 1 through June 13, the death rate from the virus in the United States was 40 times higher for those 65 and older than for those 44 and younger.
The troubling message from the White House seems to be that the elderly can continue to die at alarmingly high rates while younger Americans carry on as if the virus is little more than a minor inconvenience.
