UNLV quarterback Doug Brumfield is medically retiring from football, he announced this afternoon on social media.

Brumfield entered last season as the Rebels’ starter, but was injured in a September game against Vanderbilt and never got back to full strength. He attempted just 50 passes on the season and had a rushing touchdown.

The dual threat quarterback completed 216 of 364 career passes for 2,621 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also rushed for 441 yards and 10 scores.

Brumfield, a lanky left from Southern California, initially committed to the program in 2019 when Tony Sanchez was head coach. Sanchez was fired, but Brumfield still came to UNLV to play for new coach Marcus Arroyo. He played his last season for Barry Odom.

"I want to thank my teammates for being with my every step of the process and growing with me," he posted.

Jayden Maiava replaced Brumfield in the Vanderbilt game and led the Rebels to a nine-win season before transferring to USC

The program received two transfers in Matt Sluka (Holy Cross) and Hajj-Malik Williams (Campbell). Cameron Friel (14 games in three seasons) is the top returner.
