Deep snowpack conditions remain in the Sierra Nevada, which has led Kirkwood and Sugar Bowl resorts to extend their ski and snowboarding season for the year.

Kirkwood Ski Resort reported Monday it will be extending its season by two weeks, through April 28 on its Instagram account and its website.

More details on the day-to-day operations while they remain open through spring would be shared by the resort, according to the post. The base depth at Kirkwood Resort was at 108 inches on Wednesday afternoon, according to its website.

Sugar Bowl Resort also reported it would be extending its season through April 28, in a new release.

“We are enjoying phenomenal snow conditions and a snowpack that will last well into Spring,” said Jon Slaughter, Sugar Bowl Resort executive director of marketing in a March 8 news release.

The base depth at Sugar Bowl was at 163 inches Wednesday afternoon, according to the resort’s website.

Snowpack conditions

Back-to-back winter storms in January and February have helped conditions in the Sierra Nevada.

Currently, the Central Sierra is at 99% of its April 1 average, according to the California Department of Water Resources.

More snowfall it expected to fall this week, according to the National Weather Service five-day forecast.
