Recent stories:

Greene's Take: Stanback was voted as the Mountain West Conference's preseason Newcomer of the Year, as a year of hype will hopefully come to fruition for the Rebels early on this season. After a year as a little-used reserve for a season at UCLA, he sat out last year following his transfer to Las Vegas. At 6-foot-8, he's uniquely versatile, with a consistent jumper all the way out to roughly 20 feet and an ability to mix it up inside, both as a scorer and a rebounder. He's a quiet guy who has the ability to sneak up on opponents.

UNLV CAREER: Stanback begins his second season as a Runnin' Rebel in 2009-10 ... transferred to UNLV from UCLA after the 2007-08 season ... sat out the 2008-09 season as a redshirt because of NCAA transfer rules ... is eligible to play as a sophomore.

SOPHOMORE - REDSHIRT (2008-09): Used the 2008-09 season as a redshirt year after transferring to UNLV from UCLA.

FRESHMAN (2007-08) - UCLA: Played as a true freshman in 2007-08 at UCLA ... appeared in 25 games for the Final Four squad ... averaged 5.8 minutes per game, shot 40.4 percent from the field and averaged 1.8 points per game.

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2007 graduate of Fairfax High School in Los Angeles ... the team won two state championships (2004 and 2007) ... averaged 25.8 points and 11.9 rebounds as a senior, leading the Lions to the Division I state title and a 28-5 record ... was named the Los Angeles Times' Boy's Basketball Player of the Year ... was named an All-American by EA Sports and MaxPreps ... also earned California Division I Player of the Year and John Wooden Player of the Year honors in 2007 ... was all-league, all-city and all-state as well as being named Fairfax MVP ... ranked No. 65 in the nation by Rivals.com and as the No. 18 small forward in the country and the No. 10 small forward in California ... ranked No. 59 in the nation by Rob Harrington of USA Today and No. 52 on the ESPN 150 ... was rated the No. 1 small forward by Scout.com in the West Coast 2007 Pre-Summer Rankings ... Fairfax was ranked No. 5 in the West Regional boy's basketball final rankings by USA Today ... as a junior, led the Lions to a 24-3 overall record while averaging 18.7 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game ... named all-city, all-league and all-state as a junior ... as a sophomore averaged 13.4 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists ... was all-league, all-city and all-state ... was a four-year varsity letterman for coach Harvey Kitani ... was a high school teammate of current Runnin' Rebel Matt Shaw.

PERSONAL: Chace Michael Stanback was born June 22, 1989 in Los Angeles ... the son of Sarah Quick and Harry Stanback ... majoring in multidisciplinary studies ... has two younger brothers, Trevor (11) and Kyle (8) and one younger sister, Devin (13) ... his cousin, Isaiah Stanback, played quarterback from 2003-06 and wide receiver in 2003 for Washington.
