Metro Police investigate a shooting scene in February 2008 near Jaycee Park.

Location of Shooting

A Las Vegas Metro police officer killed a man after a shootout tonight near Jaycee Park. The officer, who was wounded in the leg, was transported to an area hospital and was expected to be released tonight. Another man who was fleeing from the officer was captured and arrested following a pursuit that began shortly after 6 p.m., according to Metro Police Capt. Randy Montandon.

Montandon said the incident began after U.S. Marshals requested assistance from Metro police to capture two "armed and dangerous males," both of whom had outstanding warrants for probation violations.

Officers spotted the pair, tried to pull them over, then chased them by car, then by foot in a neighborhood near St. Louis and Eastern avenues. In the pursuit, shots were exchanged and one suspect was found dead at the scene, and the other was captured, Montandon said.

The identities of the two men have not been released.

Sun photographer Steve Marcus provided information from the scene for this report.
