Seeking to capitalize on voter anger over the BP oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid today unleashed a new ad today slamming his Republican rival Sharron Angle for her comments likening the BP victims' fund to a “slush fund.”
The ad, which begins with images of oil-soaked wildlife and oil gushing unchecked into the ocean, accuses Angle of wanting to lift environmental regulations, even in the face of such a disaster.
“The same Sharron Angle who wants to abolish the Department of Energy and the EPA calls it a slush fund when you make polluters pay,” the ad says.
Angle did make comments likening the victims compensation fund to a slush fund during a call-in talk show interview. She later apologized for the remark and blamed the Obama administration for failing to properly oversee deep water drilling.
UPDATE: Sun columnist Jon Ralston has obtained a new ad the Angle campaign released today. The ad, complete with images of homeowners stressing over bills, pins Nevada's foreclosure crisis on Reid.
"If your home was worth $300,000 before, now thanks to Harry Reid's disastrous economic policies, you've lost over $150,000," the ad says.
