Harry and Landra Reid to celebrate 50th anniversary this weekend

WASHINGTON -- One of the funnier stories in Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s autobiography “The Good Fight” is the one he tells about first seeing his wife.

Reid the teenager was going by her house in Henderson when he spotted Landra, also a teen, washing the family car in the driveway.

“Wow, that’s a pretty nice car washer,” Reid recalls in the book.

One punched-out father-in-law-to-be, five kids and many grandchildren later, and the rest is history.

Mr. and Mrs. Reid are celebrating their 50th anniversary this weekend.

They’re having dinner and taking in Billy Crystal’s performance here at National Theater.

In an age of fleeting alliances, the golden 50 makes for a wholesome tale (and one with nice timing in a campaign year).
