It’s Dee Dee Day: free Las Vegas concert tonight

Sat, Jun 7, 2008 (11:24 a.m.)

Internationally-known jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater was born in Memphis, but she lives right here in Henderson. The singer's singer performs in a free concert at 8 p.m. tonight (Saturday, June 7) at the Clark County Amphitheatre.

If we're lucky, she'll dip genereously into her latest album, "Red Earth," which was recorded in Mali with jazz bassist Ira Coleman and pianist Edsel Gomez , along with a Malian musicians and singers. One critic has already said the album is to jazz what Paul Simon's "Graceland" was to American pop.

Watch a QuickTime movie about the "Red Earth" project here. Bridgewater hosts a weekly program called JazzSet on NPR, which you can stream here.
