In the face of published reports that Chris Brown has been ousted from Drai’s, officials representing the club say that first, they need a conversation with the oft-troubled music superstar before they resume his residency.
Until that summit takes place, there are no dates booked for Brown at Drai’s.
Over the weekend, the celebrity news website TMZ, among others, reported that officials at the nightclub atop the Cromwell had grown tired of Brown’s away-from-the-stage episodes and released him from his residency. The report added that an ultimatum had been issued to a lawyer representing the entertainer to apologize for an Instagram post from May, in which Brown accused the club of being a racist venue.
Today, a spokeswoman for the club issued a statement:
“Drai's has always taken great pride in its relationships with our incredibly talented resident and guest artists, including a successful partnership with Chris Brown. However, recent events have raised concerns that will need to be addressed with Chris and his management before that relationship can continue to move forward.
“We have reached out accordingly and are waiting to hear back from his team. We remain open to sitting down with him to discuss the future.”
Brown’s infamous Instagram post was from May 8. He said, in part, “DRAIS has some people working for them that always are on a power trip. Some racist s---. I PACK THIS CLUB OUT EVERY SINGLE TIME MY NAME IS ON THE FLYER. I KEEP THE LIGHTS ON IN THIS PLACE. I ain't no slave or an employee of this establishment.”
On the last week of June, Brown was expelled from a villa in Ibiza after authorities there accused him and his entourage of trashing the residence. At around that time, the publicist Mike G, hired to help rehabilitate the performer’s tattered image, sued the star after alleging he had suffered a beating that landed the publicist in the ER.
Known as a topnotch live performer and one of the best dancers in the world, Brown nonetheless has undercut his career with violent episodes. In 2009, he pleaded guilty to felony assault of his then-girlfriend, R&B superstar Rihanna, and was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community service.
