A project inspired by the great numbers of some of Broadway's legendary musicals, "Steve Wynn's Showstoppers" has abruptly set a closing date of Sept. 30.

A Wynn Las Vegas spokeswoman confirmed tonight that the production is to close on that date. The cast and crew were notified after tonight's show at Encore Theater.

Inspired by the lavish production show on Andrea Wynn's 50th birthday directed by Philip William McKinley, "Showstoppers" opened in November 2014. Wynn and McKinley picked over such classic Broadway numbers as "One" from "A Chorus Line," "Cell Block Tango" from "Chicago" and the title song from "Cabaret."

Wynn spared no expense in recruiting 34 singers and dancers and placing a full orchestra under the direction of UNLV jazz studies head Dave Loeb (who plays the music for "Family Guy") onstage. Three-time Emmy Award winner Marguerite Derricks, who worked on the original version of “Zumanity” at New York-New York, is the choreographer. Suzy Benzinger (“Blue Jasmine,” “Whatever Works,” “Celebrity” and “Ghostbusters”) is the costume designer.

The timing of the show's announced closing date is something of a surprise as the production recently added "You're The One That I Want" from the film version of "Grease," and "New York, New York." That upgrade to the show was announced one month ago. A formal news release announcing the closing date is expected Monday.
