Former University Medical Center boss Lacy Thomas pleaded not guilty to all counts during his arraignment on public corruption charges today in district court.
District Judge Michael Villani set the case for a Sept. 8 trial date. Another hearing is scheduled before Villani Friday to determine bail.
Prosecutors want it set at $500,000, but Thomas’ attorney wants him freed on his own recognizance.
A grand jury indicted Thomas last week on five counts each of theft and misconduct of a public official. Prosecutors say he steered lucrative no-work contracts at UMC to friends and associates in Chicago.
If convicted on all 10 counts, Thomas could face10 to 70 years in prison.
