Democrats outpacing GOP in raw turnout numbers after two days; GOP has 1 percent edge relative to registration totals

Mon, Oct 18, 2010 (7:11 a.m.)

Difference is because Democrats have significant (13 percent) registration edge in Clark.

By the numbers:

Sunday: 5,861-4,848

Totals: Democrats, 13,923; Republicans, 11,316

Nearly 30,000 people have now early voted in Clark County -- dropoff to 13,000 on Sunday from 17,000 on Saturday. Of those that have turned out, 47 percent are Democrats, 38 percent are Republicans.

Percentages of total registration: Democrats, 4.1 percent; Republicans, 4.6 percent

So half a percentage point lead so far in Clark.

Add in absentees (none counted Sunday), and totals are:

Democrats, 17,931 Republicans: 15,074

Total turnout relative to registration: Democrats, 5.3 percent; Republicans, 6.2 percent

So, overall, Republicans have almost a 1 percent edge relative to registration in mail and early voting. Usually have close to 5 percent overall in midterms.

Washoe numbers:Democrats, 2,695 (3.1 percent); Republicans, 3,231 (3.7 percent)

Only two days of data. We'll know more by the end of this week if the GOP is going to do better than usual midterm edge.
