For the first time in 13 days, Republicans lost ground in Clark County in turnout percentage, but with a small gain in Washoe County managed to maintain a 4 percent turnout edge statewide.
The Democratic effort in Clark County on Thursday produced its first victory in Southern Nevada – by a minuscule .1 percent but it blunted the GOP surge. The Democrats now have a nearly 21,000 raw vote lead in Clark County, where Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid must build enough of a cushion to withstand losses in rural Nevada.
Republicans have a 3,000-vote lead in Washoe County, but Democrats remain confident Sharron Angle is losing her base in northern Nevada – the margin either way in Washoe could be pivotal to this race.
So the last day could give us a sign of what’s to come on Election Day: Are the Democrats building to a surge to blunt that GOP edge, or was Thursday an aberration? We will know more after Friday’s tally.
