GOP poll: Sandoval looks solid across the state, among most demographics groups

Tue, Jul 19, 2011 (noon)

Those are the findings of that same poll conducted last week that found Sen. Dean Heller up by 4 percentage points over Rep. Shelley Berkley (elsewhere on this blog). The poll memo is at right.

Sandoval's approval/disapproval -- 53/29 -- is not Leviathan-like, but certainly healthy, especially in a down economy. His numbers among Democrats -- 37-46 -- are not awful, a sign that he is seen as a moderate, despite his no-new-taxes stance, which buckled late in the legislative session. He is very popular among Republicans (73/10) and very solid with independents (53-26).

The governor's numbers, as you will see, are remarkably consistent among all the areas of the state, solid with men and women and even Hispanics.

I know there are those who will deride the results because it is a Republican poll, but Dave Sackett has produced consistently good numbers in Nevada. And, intuitively, these feel right.

Now Sandoval should put out a statement thanking the state Supreme Court for his robust numbers....
