Dorsey gets another special monthly honor in CFL

Ex-UNLV running back Dominique Dorsey continues to make a name for himself with the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League.

He earned Special Teams Player of the Month honors for the second time in his career in July with 665 return yards. He first won that award in September 2007.

Dorsey, a 5-foot-7 jitterbug from Tulare, Calif., entered Thursday’s game at Hamilton with a league-leading 1,233 total yards.

It appears he’s getting more of a nod at running back, too, in Toronto. Against Hamilton, he ran seven times for 54 yards, which included a 3-yard touchdown at the end of the first half that helped the Argonauts tie it, 18-18.

The other Toronto running backs carried the ball three and five times, respectively.

But Toronto faded in the second half and lost, 45-21, to the Tigercats to fall to 3-4. Montreal (3-3), which plays at Winnipeg tonight, leads the weak CFL East Division.

Former Indianapolis kicker Mike Vanderjagt plays for the Argonauts.

Dorsey is the last UNLV player to run for 1,000 yards in a season, which he accomplished, with 1,261, in 2004. Since then, he has played exclusively in Canada.
