UNLV women's soccer picked second in MWC preseason poll
Four-time defending Mountain West conference champ UNLV was selected second this week in the league's preseason women's soccer poll. The Lady Rebels received one of eight possible first-place votes, with the other seven going to preseason favorite BYU.
Despite their recent conference titles, the second-place preseason rank is the highest UNLV has received in program history.
BYU won the 2007 Mountain West Tournament.
The rest of the preseason poll behind UNLV, in order, ranks San Diego State and Utah in a tie for third, followed by TCU, New Mexico, Wyoming and Air Force.
The Lady Rebs return six starters and 16 players overall from a 2007 squad which went 11-5-5 and won the MWC regular season title under the command of the league's Coach of the Year, Katherine Mertz.
UNLV opens its season on Aug. 30, as it hosts the UNLV Nike Classic at home, beginning with a matchup against Nevada-Reno. Conference season begins for the Lady Rebs on Oct. 3 at San Diego State.
UNLV releases 2008 cross country schedule
UNLV cross country released its schedule early this week, which includes four regular season meets and the Mountain West Championships on Nov. 1.
All five of the Rebels' meets will take place in California. The schedule is as follows:
Aug. 29 - UCSD Quad - San Diego, CA
Sept. 13 - SDSU Aztec Invitational - San Diego, CA
Sept. 27 - UC-Riverside Invitational - Riverside, CA
Oct. 18 - Santa Clara Invitational - Santa Clara, CA
Nov. 1 - MWC Championships - San Diego, CA
Nov. 15 - NCAA West Regional - Palo Alto, CA
