The UNLV women's basketball team pulled off its second upset in as many nights in the Mountain West Conference tournament at the Thomas & Mack Center, and will now appear in the semifinals for the first time since 2006.
The Lady Rebels, now 14-17, took care of TCU, 84-75, behind a combined 39 points and 22 rebounds from senior forward Shameela Hampton and MWC Freshman of the Year Jamie Smith.
TCU, 20-10, swept the season series against UNLV, including a 29-point win in Fort Worth on Feb. 10.
However, this time around, first-year coach Kathy Olivier's club took control right from go, securing a 20-point halftime lead en route to the upset of the third-seeded Horned Frogs.
Now, seventh-seeded UNLV takes on second-seeded San Diego State in Friday's semifinals in a 2:30 p.m. tip at the Mack.
SDSU swept the regular season series against UNLV, including a 61-55 victory in Las Vegas on Saturday which earned the Aztecs a share of the MWC regular season title.
